When the British began firing on her town on the morning of June 17, 1775 during the Battle of Bunker Hill, Miss Relief Ellery (later Vincent), a 20-year-old Charlestown, Massachusetts resident, grabbed these silver spoons from the breakfast table. She fled into the woods and hid until the fighting was finished. When she returned, all her household goods were gone. These spoons were all she had left.
