A Visit by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, returned to Virginia’s 18th-century colonial capital, May 3-4, 2007, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation reprised its role as host, a part last played in 1957.

The Royal party arrived May 3 in Williamsburg, Virginia, and visited Jamestown May 4.

A sterling silver saffron pot and elaborately bound copy of "1607: Jamestown and the New World" were presented to Queen Elizabeth II as mementoes of her visit to Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area. Handmade by expert craftsmen, the objects took a combined 200 hours to complete.

Ladies of the 18th century used small sterling pots to steep restorative saffron teas. The gift was cased in an English walnut box.

With design based on a 17th-century ship's log, and bound in Moroccan goatskin, "1607: Jamestown and the New World" made a handsome gift.
