Morocco: April 25-May 2, 2010

This extraordinary tour of three of the great cities of the Iberian Peninsula will focus on the great Age of Discovery and take the full measure of the Portuguese and Spanish achievement during this watershed era of western civilization. Savor Lisbon’s splendid museums, rich monasteries and stunning natural beauty. Continue to Andalusia, with its whitewashed hill towns, elegant Moorish palaces, and of course, vibrant Seville, Cordoba and Granada.

The trip will conveniently dovetail with a separate tour to Morocco, the first country to recognize the fledgling United States in 1777. The Morocco tour begins in Tangiers and may be enjoyed separately on its own or as an extension to the Portugal and Spain program.

Our week's journey through Morocco will take us to Fès, the oldest of Morocco’s four Imperial Cities with its strong Arab culture and exotic medina; and Marrakech – ‘the Red City’ and the African heart of the complex make-up of Morocco. We will explore this diverse and mysterious country, enjoying entrées to private residences, exotic palaces and hidden gardens.
