Participant's Guide to the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute 2016

Before the Institute

This year, we are piloting an online course, Introduction to Colonial Williamsburg’s Teacher Institute, for completion prior to your arrival. You will receive access to this course approximately 3-4 weeks before your Institute start date.

This course includes three modules:

  • Colonial Williamsburg Then and Now, an orientation to the history of Colonial Williamsburg as a historic site and educational institution
  • Introduction to The Idea of America, an overviewof Colonial Williamsburg’s Great Debate model for social studies instruction
  • Selecting Primary Sources for Use in Classroom Instruction, an introduction to primary and secondary sources as classroom tools (elementary and middle school cohorts only)

At the end of the course, you will submit a discussion post to prepare you for the start of the Institute. Your session coordinator will provide additional information in a later email.
